The sap of the palmyra tree or called Legen, in Javanese, is a drink that is extracted from Siwalan tree (Borassus flabellifer L.). Legen drinking culture started way back in 1295 AD during the Majapahit Dynasty era. This culture occurred as there are enormous amounts of Siwalan tree across East Java, specifically around Tuban, Lamongan, and Gresik. However, nowadays the population of Siwalan trees in the village is decreasing due to the expansion of residential land.
